The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations sent a letter to the Security Council regarding Yemen and the US accusations against our country.
According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency, Amir Saeed Iravani, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, sent a letter to Christina Marcus Al-San, President of the Security Council, and Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, regarding Yemen and the US accusations against our country:
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Following the order of my government and in continuation of the letter dated February 11, 2025, I would like to express my deep concern and firm condemnation of the recent hostile statements by senior officials of the United States of America, including the President of this country. These statements have been made at a time when the United States of America, in a desperate move, has sought to illegally justify its acts of aggression and war crimes against Yemen and, while making baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran, has openly threatened to resort to force against Iran. This provocative rhetoric is a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, in particular Article 2(4) thereof, which prohibits the threat or use of force against sovereign States.
In light of this gross violation of international law, the Islamic Republic of Iran firmly rejects and condemns these reckless and provocative statements. Iran calls on the Security Council to adopt a clear and principled position in condemning this inflammatory rhetoric and to call on the United States of America to abide by its obligations under the Charter of the United Nations. As we have repeatedly emphasized, normalizing the threat of the use of force creates a dangerous practice and poses serious risks to international peace and security. The Security Council should not remain silent in the face of such blatant provocations.
While adhering to its obligations towards international peace and security, the Islamic Republic of Iran will resolutely defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests within the framework of international law against any hostile action. The Islamic Republic of Iran warns that any act of aggression will have dire consequences, for which the United States of America will bear full responsibility. The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the recent military aggression and illegal use of force against Yemen by the United States of America and the United Kingdom. These actions constitute a clear violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and are contrary to international law, the Charter of the United Nations and relevant Security Council resolutions, and therefore constitute a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
As a responsible member of the international community, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to its obligations under international law, including the provisions of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, and has supported the safety and security of maritime navigation. Iran categorically rejects any violation of the arms embargo or participation in the escalation of the conflict in Yemen or elsewhere. The Ansar Allah Movement and the Yemeni authorities act independently in their decisions and actions, and emphasize that their operations are carried out in support of the people of Gaza and in response to the violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
I also take this opportunity to reiterate my complete rejection of the false and baseless allegations made by the representatives of the United States of America against the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding Yemen, as well as the accusations made by the United Kingdom and France regarding Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region, which were raised in the open meeting of the Security Council on March 6, 2025, under the agenda item “The situation in the Middle East” (9873rd meeting). These accusations are completely baseless and devoid of any credibility.
The Islamic Republic of Iran considers these baseless claims to be a deliberate and calculated attempt by these three countries to divert public opinion from their complicity in the genocide and war crimes of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people in Gaza and other nations of the region, as well as the failure of these countries as permanent members of the Security Council to hold the Zionist regime accountable and compel it to commit to regional peace and security.
It would be grateful if the present correspondence were registered and distributed as a document of the Security Council.
Renews its highest respects.
