Mohsen Naziri-Asl, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office, said: "The actions of Western countries have had a negative impact on the positive atmosphere resulting from cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency."
According to Ashura News, quoted by ISNA, Naziri Asl, while thanking Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, for his report on Iran's peaceful nuclear program, emphasized that Iran is subject to 75 percent of the agency's safeguards inspections and that such an important step would not be possible without Iran's unparalleled cooperation with the agency.
He expressed Iran's commitment to continuing cooperation with the agency and stated that Tehran's goal is to resolve the two remaining safeguards issues with the agency.
Referring to the destructive actions of the United States, the European Troika, and the European Union, including through the issuance of a joint statement or anti-Iranian resolution, the Iranian representative stated that the activities of these countries have weakened cooperation between Iran and the agency and the resolution of the remaining problems. He emphasized that the international community continues to witness violations of obligations by these countries under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Naziri-Asl stated that the adoption of the anti-Iran resolution has had a negative impact on the positive atmosphere resulting from the firm cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
Noting that previous outstanding problems with the IAEA have been resolved and Iran is cooperating with the IAEA on new problems, he said that the request to the IAEA Director General to submit a comprehensive report in this regard has no legal basis and is unjustified.
The representative of Iran stated that Tehran has taken voluntary measures in the past years within the framework of joint statements, including the statement issued on March 4, 2023. He emphasized that any progress made in cooperation between Iran and the IAEA should be submitted to the Board of Governors, which should distinguish between the legal obligations of countries under their safeguards agreements and their voluntary actions so that voluntary actions do not turn into legal safeguards obligations.
