The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations stated in a letter to the Security Council: "The responsibilities and consequences of any illegal and reckless aggression against Iran will be borne entirely and without doubt by the United States and the Zionist regime."
According to Ashura News, quoting ISNA, Amir Saeed Iravani, in a letter to the UN Security Council, referring to the violation of international law by the Zionist regime against Iran, stated: Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the Zionist regime, in a public statement on Sunday, May 4, 2025, once again repeated baseless accusations and incorrectly attributed the actions of the Yemeni people in response to the crimes committed in occupied Palestine to the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the aforementioned statement, the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime explicitly threatened the Islamic Republic of Iran and announced that the [regime] of Israel would take revenge not only on Yemen, but also on what he called the “Iranian terrorist masters.”
He said: Unfortunately, this irresponsible threat was also repeated by Pete Hexath, Secretary of Defense of the United States of America; On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, he similarly stated that Iran “will face consequences” for its alleged support for the actions of Yemen’s Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis.
Iran’s representative to the United Nations explained the Islamic Republic of Iran’s position on this matter:
1. The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects such accusations and threats; considers them baseless, provocative, and politically motivated, and strongly condemns them. Such belligerent and inflammatory statements, explicitly accompanied by threats to use force against a sovereign state and a member of the United Nations, constitute a clear and serious violation of the fundamental principle of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, in particular Article 2, paragraph 4 thereof, and constitute a direct threat to international peace and security.
2. As has been repeatedly emphasized, the actions of the Yemeni people were the result of independent decisions taken within the framework of exercising their sovereign right to resist aggressions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen, as well as in solidarity with the Palestinian people who are under continuous and illegal attacks. Any attempt to attribute these legitimate actions to the Islamic Republic of Iran is a deliberate distortion of reality and a desperate attempt to divert the attention of the international community from the main roots of the current crisis in the region, namely; the gross and ongoing crimes of the Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, and the relentless acts of aggression of the United States of America against Yemen.
3. Recalling the dangerous consequences and consequences of the continued military aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen for the security and stability of the Red Sea and the entire region, the Islamic Republic of Iran [reiterates that] it has always called for an end to genocide and war crimes in occupied Palestine, as these crimes are the root cause of continued insecurity and instability throughout the region.
4. The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reiterating its principled position on the need to respect the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries, condemns the military attacks by the United States against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen. It is not Iran, but the United States and its allies that have expanded the scope of regional conflicts by militarizing the Red Sea and conducting illegal military operations against Yemen. These attacks and acts of aggression targeting civilian infrastructure constitute a gross violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, in particular international humanitarian law, and seriously endanger the peace and stability of Yemen and the region.
5. In view of such gross violations and their dangerous consequences, the Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its primary responsibility under the Charter of the United Nations to maintain international peace and security. The Security Council should not remain silent in the face of these actions, but should explicitly condemn the threatening and belligerent statements of the officials of the Zionist regime and the United States, and call on them to immediately end their illegal threats and fully abide by their international obligations.
6. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains firmly committed to regional peace and stability and declares that it does not seek confrontation or escalation. However, Iran once again emphasizes its inherent right under international law and the UN Charter to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests against any threat or unlawful use of force.
Iravani concluded by stating: “Any military adventurism by the United States or its proxy, the Zionist regime, whether it is an action against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, or national and vital interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be met with a swift, proportionate, and legitimate response. All responsibilities and consequences arising from any illegal and reckless aggression will be borne fully and without hesitation by the United States and the Zionist regime.”
