The head of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission said: "The issue of increasing the price of mobile internet will be reviewed in this commission with the presence of officials from the Ministry of Communications, and we are against this in the current economic conditions."
According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency, Reza Alizadeh, in response to the publication of news that the country's three main mobile phone operators, namely Irancell, Hamrah-Aval and Rightel, announced that they would increase the price of mobile internet packages by 75 percent, said: "This is merely a proposal by the operators. Of course, these operators had previously sought to increase the internet tariff, but the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had prevented this from happening."
The head of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission continued: "Today I spoke with relevant officials at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and they emphasized that the increase in internet tariffs by the operators has not been finalized yet and is being reviewed."
He added: "We asked the officials of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to attend the meeting of the Industries and Mines Commission and explain to us what the issue is. The Parliament, and in particular the Industries and Mines Commission of the Parliament, will definitely address this issue."
The representative of the people of Varzaqan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly emphasized: According to the law, operators have the right to increase internet tariffs, but it is usually customary to obtain the approval of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in this regard.
Alizadeh said: "Our opinion is that this should not happen, because people are under enough financial and economic pressure. While we understand the considerations of mobile phone operators, we believe that if we are going to increase prices, these increases should be minimized, because people cannot tolerate more economic pressures in the current situation."
