In a meeting with the Minister of Interior and the governors, Ayatollah Khamenei said: The first condition for fighting corruption is for officials and their families to stay away from corrupt factors.
According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency, in a meeting with the Minister of Interior and the governors this afternoon, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution emphasized that the governors are the all-round managers of the province, considered the country's public space suitable for service and the opportunities abundant, and while giving some recommendations, said: One of the important issues is the issue of the people, which must be addressed among the people and attended their gatherings, listened to their words patiently, even if they are harsh, and provided them with the necessary explanations.
In this meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei called the governor responsible for all provincial affairs such as production, environment, urban services, border markets, and provincial diplomacy, and said: Of course, despite the emphasis on this principle in various governments, presidents have not been able to fully govern it due to the opposition of some ministers, but the governors must be given authority so that they can make decisions and take action on issues.
Pointing to the country’s abundance of opportunities and the absence of challenges in the public sphere such as war, a pandemic like the coronavirus, acute security problems, and factional and political disputes, he noted: “In addition, the country has a huge capacity of young, educated, and efficient human resources. If every institution recognizes and uses this capacity, tangible progress has been made.”
The Leader of the Revolution mentioned Iran’s membership in important regional and global forums such as Shanghai and BRICS and the Ministry of Interior being headed by a minister who has good knowledge of the country’s different regions as other opportunities. He recommended the selection of managers with a spirit of service and good health to advance affairs, saying: “If you select managers with this spirit for the province, no opportunity for work and progress will be missed.”
Emphasizing that governors should refrain from activities that involve conflicts of interest, such as personal business during their short term of service, he considered it essential to take care of the country's health and fight against corruption, and added: Some tried to prove that corruption in the Islamic Republic is a system, as they say, while this is a lie and the system is sound, but there are strong or weak traces of corruption in some sectors that must be fought against resolutely.
Ayatollah Khamenei considered fighting corruption to be one of the definitive duties of senior managers, and emphasizing that the first and necessary condition for fighting corruption is for officials and their families to be far from corrupting factors, he added: The harm and loss of an official engaging in corruption is doubled due to the sensitive position he occupies, and his punishment is also double in the sight of God. Of course, as I emphasized in a detailed and important message several years ago, corruption is like a seven-headed dragon that is not easily destroyed, and the fight against it must continue.
In another piece of advice, he advised officials and governors to be present among the people, warm up to them, and listen patiently to even the harsh words of the people, adding: This will attract people's love for you and their help in sensitive times.
The Leader of the Revolution also advised the governors to legislate, avoid divine prohibitions, and be receptive to religious rituals, strive to fulfill the slogan of the year, and fight seriously and in a coordinated manner against smuggling goods.
At the beginning of this meeting, Mr. Eskandar Momeni, Minister of Interior, while giving a report on the ongoing programs, said: Investment in production, alleviation of deprivation, job creation, people-oriented and loving people, and relations with different classes, youth orientation, economic diplomacy and relations with neighbors, organizing foreign nationals, and ensuring sustainable security are among the programs and priorities of the Ministry of Interior.
