Pezzekian: Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons; Putin: Iran's right to enrich is certain

In a telephone conversation with Putin, the President expressed appreciation for the Russian government's positions regarding Iran's right to enrich uranium and said: "Based on its ideological foundations and defense doctrine, Iran has not and does not seek to build nuclear weapons."

According to Ashura News, citing Mehr News Agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Monday afternoon, September 23, 1404, in a telephone call with Masoud Peshkian, while explaining the outlines and results of his recent talks with the US President in Alaska, stated that we reached good results in these consultations, which if fully implemented, will resolve the Ukraine issue, and stated: Our discussions at this meeting were entirely about the Ukraine issue.

The Russian President continued by describing the process of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran as constructive and continuously improving, adding: Trade exchanges between the two countries have also grown by 11 percent in the first six months of this year, and cooperation in other areas, including the construction of the important Rasht-Astara railway, is also progressing.

Stating that the cooperation between the two countries in the field of the Bushehr nuclear power plants is also progressing satisfactorily, Putin stated: All technical cooperation is being carried out on schedule and the transfer of new fuel for this power plant is also underway.

The Russian President, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s right to enrich uranium is key and certain for Russia, said: “I hope that the negotiations on the issue of Resolution 2231 will also reach a satisfactory conclusion.”

In this telephone conversation, Pezizian also expressed his satisfaction that, according to President Putin, the Alaska negotiations had yielded satisfactory results, and noted: “I hope that the agreements reached in practice will lead to a speedy resolution of the Ukraine issue.”

Stating that he is personally following up on the acceleration of the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway and other agreements between the two countries, the President of our country stated: “In addition to bilateral interactions with Russia, Iran considers regional and international organizations such as the Eurasian Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the BRICS as a favorable platform for cooperation with member states, especially Russia and China, to effectively confront unilateralism.”

Pezzekian, appreciating the Russian government's positions regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran's right to enrich uranium, added: "Based on its fundamental beliefs and defense doctrine, Iran has never sought, is not, and will never seek to build nuclear weapons." The President also referred to his recent visit to Armenia and stated: "During this visit, the Prime Minister of Armenia assured that in the country's recent talks and agreements with the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States, the concerns of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Russia have been fully taken into account. With this in mind, I believe that the 3+3 dialogue framework with the participation of Iran and Russia will be a more effective and efficient mechanism for resolving issues in the Caucasus region."
