The Foreign Minister said today in response to the Board of Governors' resolution: "Although after the Stenbomb, the Cairo Understanding was no longer a basis for Iran-IRA relations in the field of safeguards, today it was announced in an official letter to the IAEA Director General that this understanding is no longer valid and is considered terminated."
According to Ashura News, quoted by Fars News Agency, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi today (Thursday), November 19, in response to the illegal and unjustified action of three European countries and the United States in presenting an anti-Iranian resolution in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which was approved under pressure from these four countries and despite the opposing vote and abstention of 15 members, said: "With this action and disregard for Iran's interactions and goodwill, these countries have tarnished the credibility and independence of the Agency and are disrupting the process of interactions and cooperation between the Agency and Iran." Araqchi added: "Although after the illegal action of the three European countries in the UN Security Council to restore the canceled Security Council resolutions, the Cairo Understanding was no longer a basis in Iran-Iraq relations in the field of safeguards, today it was announced in an official letter to the Director General of the Agency that this understanding is no longer valid and is considered terminated." Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency reached an understanding on a new method of cooperation on September 8 in Cairo. At the same time, Araghchi announced that if any hostile action is taken against Iran or if snapback is activated, this memorandum of understanding will be suspended.
Today (Thursday), November 19, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency approved a resolution proposed by three European countries, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States, regarding Iran's nuclear program. This resolution was approved by 19 votes in favor, 3 against and 12 abstentions in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The resolution calls on Iran to cooperate with the Agency regarding the nuclear facilities that were bombed in the recent attack.
