-- No case of infection with Omicron reported: Minister

No case of infection with Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been identified in Iran, said the health minister.
In an address to a meeting in the central province of Yazd on Friday, Bahram Einollahi added getting vaccinated and observing the health protocols highly reduces the possibility of being infected with the new coronavirus strain and any other variants, IRNA reported.
He noted that at present, 87 percent of the country’s population have been vaccinated against COVID-19, saying in some provinces, the figure has surpassed 90 percent.

 

-- Official: Iran-Tajikistan trade on the rise

The current economic relations between Iran and Tajikistan are more satisfactory than before, and bilateral trade exchanges are on the rise.
Making the statement during an exclusive interview with Iran daily, Mohammad-Kazem Shirdel, the vice president of Iran-Tajikistan Chamber of Commerce, added that Dushanbe’s political problem with Ashgabat caused Turkmenistan to close all its borders with Turkmenistan, making our exports through the Turkmen border impossible.
He, however, said, “But it is for several months now that the problems between the have been resolved and the direct shipment of Iranian goods to Tajikistan can be done.”

-- Hungary, Iran Sign 5 Agreements for Cooperation

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi says two decades of military presence by the U.S. and NATO in Afghanistan have no other result for the Afghan people than bloodshed and backwardness.
“The outcome of two decades of the U.S. and NATO presence in Afghanistan is murder, crime, bloodshed, and backwardness of Afghan people,” he told Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó here Thursday.
“More than 30,000 Afghan children are now grappling with various kinds of disabilities as a result of the Americans’ presence” in their country, Raisi said.

The member of national Iranian weightlifting team Fatemeh Yousefi in the +87 kg broke the national record at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships underway in Uzbekistan.

In the women’s +87 kg category, Mousavi lifted 85kg in her first attempt in the snatch and 89kg in the second attempt in the snatch and 93kg weight in her third attempt in the snatch.

 

-- 16 Iranian Provinces Report No New COVID Deaths

Half of the 32 provinces in Iran on Friday reported zero new deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, as the country marked one of the lowest daily fatalities in the past nine months.
Over the past 24 hours, 2,196 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported in Iran, 341 of who were hospitalized, the Health Ministry said. It put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 130,992 after 46 patients lost their lives in past 24 hours.

-- Iranian weightlifter Yousefi breaks junior world record

Alireza Yousefi from Iran registered a new record in the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships.

The 18-year-old weightlifter made 238kg in the clean and jerk in the +109kg and bettered the world junior record by one kilogram set by his compatriot Ali Davoudi in the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China.

Georgian Lasha Talakhadze made 225-267-492 to win the gold medal in the weight category.

 

-- Iranian bookstores give readers “Only a Promise of Happiness”

Greek-born American philosopher Alexander Nehamas’s book “Only a Promise of Happiness: The Place of Beauty in a World of Art” has been published in Persian.

Published by Qoqnus, the book has been rendered into Persian by Masud Hosseini. Neither art nor philosophy was kind to beauty during the twentieth century. Much modern art disdains beauty, and many philosophers deeply suspect that beauty merely paints over or distracts us from horrors. 

 

-- Persian handicrafts: Namad-mali in Semnan

The craft of Namad-mali (literally meaning felt beating) has long been practiced in villages of Semnan province to produce Namad (a traditional carpet) out of woolen fabrics by rolling and pressing them.

The method of making felts are almost similar in different areas of Iran, but they sometimes vary in color, pattern, and thickness. Felts are known to be the oldest floor covering that was made by mankind. There is a famous story told by the felt makers of Semnan, narrating that Soleiman the prophet had a son who was a shepherd.
