According to Ashura News, citing a Mehr reporter, a press conference on the topic of the International Conference on the 100th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Qom Seminary was held today, Sunday, May 4, in the presence of Ayatollah Aarafi, the Director of the Islamic Seminaries throughout the country, and the directors and deputies of the Islamic Seminaries of the country, explaining their views on the functioning of the seminaries in the Malek Museum Garden.

The Director of the Islamic Seminaries of the Country, emphasizing the importance of the seminary as a science-based, ethics-oriented and social institution, stated: The seminary has a long and ancient history that has been able to serve science, thought and society throughout history. He referred to the chain that seminaries have created in Iran, Iraq, and other countries, and stated that this chain has always acted in order to preserve its scientific and religious identity.
Ayatollah Aarafi divided the main characteristics of seminaries into four categories and said: The first characteristic is the “knowledge-based” nature of the seminary. In the times when the two institutions of seminary and university were not separated from each other, all branches of science and knowledge were prevalent in the seminary, and this indicates the scientific richness of the seminary.
He added: The second characteristic that should be considered is ethics and practical wisdom. In his opinion, the religious elders of the seminary throughout history have been able to gain many advantages over others due to their attention to spiritual and moral traditions, and this is considered one of the most important pillars of the seminary’s identity.
The director of the seminary also referred to the popular dimension of the seminary and said: The seminary arose from the people and is with the people. He emphasized that the human and divine ideals of the seminary have preserved the deep bond between religious scholars and the people, and serving the people is a fundamental element of the seminary.
Ayatollah Aarafi continued by saying: “Correct politics and correct thinking, far from extremism, are other prominent features of the seminary, and the seminary has always stood as the standard-bearer of the independence of Islamic countries against conspiracies.”
Referring to the history of this institution, he emphasized that the seminary has always been with the people and has played a significant role in critical historical circumstances, such as the Islamic Revolution of Iran.
The director of the country’s seminaries pointed out the importance of the history of the establishment of the Qom Seminary in the contemporary century and said: The Qom Seminary was formed in difficult and difficult times.
He continued that in the early 20th century, when Iran was under internal and external pressures, Ayatollah Haeri Yazdi, with his wisdom, re-established a great scientific institution. The director of the seminaries noted that unprecedented developments have also occurred in the field of Quranic interpretation and Quranic sciences, and the seminary has paid attention to new practices in comparative interpretation as well as interpretation in different languages. He expressed optimism that these developments will contribute greatly to the growth and development of science in the seminaries.
Ayatollah A'rafi also emphasized the expansion of the sister seminaries, which are growing and expanding significantly, and said: For the first time since the Islamic Revolution, the doors of Islamic sciences have been opened to women. These activities and developments represent a great opportunity to refine and develop the various aspects of women’s faith and morality in society.
The director of the seminaries stated that currently, there are about 500 academic centers for women in the country, which shows the impact of the Qom Seminary over the past 100 years. This seminary has been particularly successful in disseminating Islamic knowledge globally and in more than 100 countries, and has promoted Islamic ideas.

He continued his speech by referring to the seminary’s concern regarding the university and added: The seminary was concerned about its relationship with the university from the beginning. Since the establishment of Tehran University, the seminary leaders have put interaction with this institution on the agenda. The presence of scholars such as Allameh Tabataba’i, Martyr Motahari, Martyr Mofateh, and… is evidence of this.
Ayatollah A’rafi noted: In the intellectual tradition of Qom, there is reliance on the people, and they have been the main supports of the seminary and the institution of religious knowledge, and the Imam, relying on this great force, formed the revolution.
He continued: In the seminary’s achievements section, more than 300 scholars collaborated to collect and prepare the works of Ayatollah Ha’eri Yazdi, and 25 volumes of his scientific works have been prepared so far and will be unveiled on the day of the conference.
Referring to the conference to be held on Wednesday, May 7, the Director of the Islamic Seminaries of the Country said: For this major scientific conference, we are awaiting the issuance of a charter and an important message from the Leader regarding the performance of the seminaries. This conference will be held with the presence of two great religious authorities (Ayatollah Javadi Amoli and Ayatollah Sobhani) and messages from the venerable religious authorities Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi and Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani, and the presence of foreign guests from different countries.
At the end of his speech, Ayatollah Aarafi addressed the holding of the international conference on the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Qom Seminary and said: We are awaiting the issuance of the Leader of the Revolution’s charter on seminary issues, which will be unveiled at the same time as this conference. This charter is in line with the clerical charter of Imam Khomeini (RA) and will be a turning point in the developments in seminary and religious issues.
He also mentioned the seminary’s concerns regarding the university, adding that since the establishment of the University of Tehran, the seminary has always been committed to interacting with this institution and has followed a cooperative approach. The presence of scholars such as Allameh Tabatabaei, Shahid Motahari, and Shahid Mofateh are examples of this interaction.
