In response to his French counterpart's call for Iran to exercise restraint in the face of US military aggression, the President of our country said: "America has attacked us; what would you do if you were in such a situation? Naturally, they must receive a response for their aggression."
According to Ashura News, citing ISNA, Masoud Pezzekian spoke by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday afternoon, referring to the recent US attack on our country’s nuclear facilities, and considered this action a clear symbol of the dishonesty and baselessness of US claims regarding dialogue and peacemaking.
The President of our country emphasized in this call: “We spoke of trust in negotiations with the US, and the US also said different things at the negotiating table, but in practice it acted differently and attacked our nuclear facilities; how can we trust such a government?”
Referring to the process of past negotiations, Pezzekian added: “At first, the Americans claimed that they were only seeking to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program was peaceful. We welcomed the talks, but then, not only did they act the opposite, but in full coordination with the Zionist regime, they attacked our country’s facilities in the middle of the talks.” This was despite previously claiming that they had no role in Israel's attack on Iran.
Emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran had not started any war, the Iranian President stated: "We were subjected to military aggression and have defended ourselves steadfastly. We have always stated that we are ready to engage and negotiate within the framework of international law, but instead of accepting logic, the other side has demanded the surrender of the Iranian nation. Our nation will never surrender to force and bullying, and it is natural that it will respond appropriately to aggression."
Stating that diplomacy should be based on mutual trust, Pezsian noted: "Diplomacy is valid when the parties adhere to their commitments, rather than attacking the other country during negotiations and destroying trust."
Addressing the French President, Pezsian stated: "We considered France a country adhering to democratic rules, and we hope that this view will not be tarnished by the performance and actions of the French government."
In response to Macron's call for Iran to exercise restraint in the face of US military aggression, the President of our country stated: America has attacked us; if you were in such a situation, what would you do? Naturally, they should receive a response for their aggression.
Emphasizing the Islamic Republic of Iran's principled approach to constructive engagement with Europe, Pezizian added: We have always declared our readiness for dialogue and engagement with Europe and have never abandoned the path of diplomacy, because we believe that no one will lose from dialogue. We have honestly declared that we are not seeking war or nuclear weapons, nor do we want insecurity in the region; peace and tranquility are the basis for progress and development.
In this telephone conversation, the French President also expressed his readiness to continue the path of diplomacy and said: France remains ready to move on the path of negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and will continue its efforts to stop the conflicts and restore stability.
