According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency, Ismail Baghaei, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country, stated at the ceremony commemorating the United Nations Day: “Today we have gathered on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. The United Nations is a symbol of humanity learning lessons from past pain and suffering.”

He added: “Maintaining peace along with developing relations between countries are the main goals of the United Nations; prohibiting the use or threat of force is a fundamental rule in Article 2 of the Charter.”

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “Since the founding of the United Nations, the goals of the United Nations Charter have been exposed to violation and abuse by parties that are still engaged in colonialist illusions.”

Baghaei stated: “Our world is now facing the nightmare of endless wars and inequality is rampant; the violations of international law that lead to devastating wars have been committed by powerful actors; The belligerent unilateralism of the US and its allies has plunged the world into chaos and lawlessness.

He continued: The US and its allies are the biggest violators of the goals of the UN Charter; in these two years of the Gaza war, the Zionist regime militarily invaded several countries; the gross violations of the Charter were supported by the Western countries, and they subjected the regime to impunity.

Baqai said: The US is now targeting the national sovereignty of Venezuela and Latin American countries; America's provocative actions violate international peace and security.

Stating that Iran is steadfast on the path of peace and human dignity, he stated: In these eight decades, Iran supported the goals of the UN Charter despite the biases of the UN components such as the Security Council; The Security Council not only took a position on the eight-year imposed war against Iran, but also adopted cruel sanctions against Iran in the past decades and did not even issue a resolution against the regime’s aggression against Iran. We have never torn up the UN Charter, sanctioned the judges of the Hague Court, and insulted the Secretary-General.

Baghaei added: Guterres also said that it is not time to retreat; we believe in a financial organization that represents all countries; we must build a financial organization that will prevent the recurrence of the scourge of war today.

The full text of Baghaei’s speech is as follows:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Dear Madam Dr. Ansari, Honorable Vice President and Head of the Environmental Protection Organization,

Mr. Stefan Prisner, Honorable UN Resident Coordinator in the Islamic Republic of Iran,

Honorable Ambassadors, Directors of UN Agencies,

Officials and Representatives of Government Agencies and Institutions, Distinguished Colleagues,

Dear Participants,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the adoption of the Charter of the United Nations, we have gathered to reflect on the current precarious situation and the worrying trends at the international level, while recalling the noble principles and purposes of the United Nations and appreciating all the collective achievements of the Organization, some of which Mr. Prisner mentioned, and to reflect on the current precarious situation and the worrying trends at the international level. A situation that is the result of the failure of some powers to adhere to the most important principles and purposes of the United Nations; and a trend that could jeopardize all human achievements in curbing force, violence, and aggression.

Distinguished guests,

The United Nations is not only the largest and only global symbol for interaction and cooperation to preserve peace, strengthen cooperation, promote respect for human rights and human dignity, and advance the development and well-being of nations; it is also a symbol and sign of humanity learning from the pain and suffering of the past.

The United Nations was founded on the ashes of a devastating global war, and by learning from the failed experience of the previous League of Nations, which was itself an attempt to prevent a repeat of the disaster of World War I. It is not without reason that "saving future generations from the scourge of war" was placed at the top of the United Nations Charter as the most important philosophy and special task. "Maintaining international peace and security" was determined as two of the main goals of the organization, along with "developing friendly relations among states based on "respect for the principle of equal rights" and "the right of peoples to self-determination," and "prohibition of the threat or use of force" was included as fundamental rules in Article 2 of the Charter, along with "the commitment to respect international obligations and agreements" and "the commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes."

Respect for the equal rights of human beings and nations, which is embodied in the fundamental principle of the right of peoples to self-determination as a fundamental principle of international law, requires the prohibition and rejection of any foreign interference and interference in the internal affairs of countries, especially respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

Dear friends,

Unfortunately, the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter Since its inception, the United Nations has been subject to repeated violations, encroachments, arbitrary interpretations, and abuses by parties that have not yet been able to free themselves from the colonialist "self-righteousness" mentality and illusion. And so it is that now, only 8 decades after the establishment of an organization that embodied the human ideal of peace, justice, and human dignity, our world is faced with the nightmare of endless wars, injustice is rampant in various dimensions, and human dignity is being sacrificed to greed and racism.

If we review the past century of international relations and briefly reflect on the current state of international relations, from West Asia to the Caribbean and Latin America, we see that the gross violations and violations of international law that have caused and are causing great humanitarian tragedies and devastating wars have always been committed by powerful actors who consider themselves beyond the rules of international law. And in the last decade, by forging the concept of a “rules-based order,” R has replaced the “principles and rules of international law” with arbitrary, selfish, and fluid arrangements as the basis for their behavior.

The “aggressive unilateralism” that now guides the actions of the United States and its allies in international relations and has plunged the world into unprecedented insecurity and chaos has no basis other than these “fabricated rules” that merely serve their own interests and illicit gains. In a world governed by these “rules,” the use of force, threats, and intimidation becomes normal, disrespect for international legal agreements and obligations carries no consequences for violators, gross violations of human rights and the commission of the most serious international crimes—even to the extent of genocide and mass extermination of a nation—are supported, and in a word, all the principles and ideals of the United Nations are simply ignored.

Dear audience,

It is not an exaggeration to claim that the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter and the institutional system that emerged from it, which is based on respect for international law and fundamental principles such as respect for the right of peoples to self-determination, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, prohibition of the use of force, prohibition of interference in the internal affairs of countries, and the like, have never been so exposed to pressure, distortion, and violation by powers that are by chance, within the framework of the United Nations Security Council, obligated to maintain international peace and security.

It must be said frankly that the United States and some of its allies are the greatest violators of the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter. It is enough to consider the actions of this country and the party that, according to the explicit admission of the President of the United States, is its "vice or proxy"; in these two years, while committing the largest continuous genocide in history in occupied Palestine, the Zionist regime has invaded several countries militarily, committed terrorist acts, and annexed the territory of two countries. This is while all these gross violations of the principles and objectives of the Charter have been accompanied by the full support and complicity of the United States and some European parties, in such a way that a kind of absolute impunity has been created for the Israeli occupation regime, and the United States has even taken steps to sanction and threaten judges of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice for investigating crimes committed in Gaza.

On the other side of the world in the Caribbean and Latin America, the United States, under pretexts that have been tested many times in the same region, has targeted the national sovereignty and right to self-determination of Venezuela and some other independent countries. Worse, it has turned the territory of neighboring countries into a place to organize and prepare for the use of force against another country; and this means disrupting friendly relations and good neighborliness between nations that have lived together peacefully and respectfully under normal circumstances.

Without a doubt, the provocative actions and continuous threats of the United States against Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, Brazil and other countries in the Caribbean and Latin America are condemned and violate international peace and security.

Distinguished audience,

Iran is a steadfast supporter of the path of peace, justice, human dignity and friendly relations among nations as the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

It is true that both devastating world wars were started by the West and by Europeans, but their circle of fire encompassed the entire world, and our country, despite declaring neutrality, was not only not immune from its consequences, but perhaps suffered even more than the parties that initiated and engaged in the war.

For this reason, Iran, with genuine concern and a hopeful outlook, tried to shape a world that would prevent the repetition of the bitter experiences of war. Regarding the League of Nations, the victorious parties of the war prevented Iran from attending and participating in the Versailles Peace Conference, although Iran subsequently became a member of the League of Nations.

However, Iran played an important role in the negotiations for the drafting of the UN Charter, and specifically tried to curb the freedom of states to resort to force and demanded a clear definition of the concept of "aggression" in Article 39 of the Charter.

In these 8 decades, Iran, despite the obvious biases it has seen in the UN Security Council and some of its other components, has always strived as a responsible and effective member to protect the principles and objectives of the Charter. Despite the fact that the UN, under the influence and abuse of the United States and some of its friends, practically stood on the side of the aggressor in Saddam's 8-year war against Iran, in the following decades it issued illegal and cruel resolutions against us, just a few months ago it even avoided issuing a simple statement condemning the blatant aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, and despite the fact that it has repeatedly issued false resolutions and reports against Iran under the pretext of human rights in these 5 decades, we have never torn up the Charter of the organization as a sign of disrespect for its principles and objectives, we have not described the organization as a worthless institution, we have not threatened the judges of international courts, and we have not called the Secretary-General an undesirable element. And this is the behavior of a deep-rooted, insightful, noble and powerful nation that distinguishes between the authenticity of human, moral and legal principles and their abuse, and knows that in a world where the common moral and human principles for peaceful living and respect for human dignity - the same principles that have been formulated in the framework of the principles and purposes of the Charter - are marginalized, insecurity, chaos and immorality will cast a shadow everywhere.

As the Secretary-General pointed out in his message, now is not the time for retreat and passivity.

We believe in justice. We believe in the United Nations as the true representative of the rights of nations.

On this day, let us not be satisfied with ideals alone, but let us renew our commitment to their realization. Let us build a United Nations that can, today, prevent the scourge of war for future generations from repeating the scourge of war, and save the present and future generations.

In conclusion, I would like to express my deep gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Prizner, whose mission has ended after 4 years of serious efforts and service to the United Nations and the promotion of cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and various UN institutions.

Mr. Prizner has provided invaluable cooperation with my colleagues both at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a professional and caring approach over the years.

We sincerely wish him the best and hope that he will always be effective and successful in any responsibility he takes on after his role as the UN Representative in Iran.
